An elegy to the Gowanus Canal neighborhood, where Chavchavadze has maintained a studio for thirty years, Gowanus Erased documents in photographs the full-scale demolition over the course of a year of a post-industrial area rezoned for residential development. A landscape of low, early twentieth century brick factory buildings was entirely erased in a matter of months, leaving only empty lots and the surrounding tell-tale pre-development green fence.
