Save the Flower

A collection of feminist paintings, drawings, and writings

Corey Devon Arthur, Lolita Lebrón, Blood in My Eye Collection. Composite, acrylic, and colored pencil on Strathmore, 18 x 24”, 2022.

The Save The Flower project was conceived and implemented by artist and writer Corey Devon Arthur, who has been incarcerated since 1997. The project is Corey Arthur’s message of healing expressing the power of feminism to heal a patriarchal carceral system that relies on brutality and oppression. Visitors and community groups are encouraged to make an appointment at Footnote project space to view a collection of Corey Arthur’s paintings honoring women who have changed his life, and a related video presentation.

First exhibited in 2023 at My Gallery NYC in Crown Heights, Save the Flower is an ongoing project coordinated by a team of outside individuals and organizations, including Empowerment Avenue, Fulton Art Fair, and the Brooklyn Quakers. The Save the Flower team travels the project as an exhibition or presentation to creative venues, community groups or educational programs. For information, contact empowermentave@gmail.com.

A Save the Flower project publication entitled She Told Me Save the Flower (2023) includes reproductions of Corey Arthur’s paintings and excerpts of his writing. Available for purchase in our shop.

The Save the Flower project offers an opportunity to engage with a prisoner through a person to person letter-writing collective focusing on mutual accompaniment, and building trust and care between inside and outside individuals. To learn more about this project, email jubilantjudy@gmail.com.
